The annual end-of-the-year members’ exhibition at Da Vinci Art Alliance here in Philadelphia called for responses to the word light. Thinking of this holiday season under a word umbrella of light, my immediate thoughts jumped from religious scenes to starry night skies to festive Christmas lights, and then landed on a collage I created years ago that was part of a series entitled “Family.” These collages included arrangements of cut pieces of acrylic-painted paper on board offering different relationships of color, shape, size and placement. One work in particular stood out as expressing my current inner dialogue with the word light.

Light as in buoyant! The colorful shapes with suspended circles (like bouncing balls!) reflect my hope for a more joyful future worldwide. I retitled it All Together Now – a nod to the sing-a-long Beatles’ tune that puts a smile on my face. Time to hold fast to the joys that come our way as we navigate the bumpy days ahead. Sing…all together now!
