TREES, TRUNKS, BRANCHES, ROOTS, ME

As I was visualizing how to fill an empty space between the dining room and living room, I wandered back to drawings done years ago of trees…

After locating them, I was surprised to see how many I had done. And had totally forgotten about the 4 drawings of a figure against a towering tree. I immediately began arranging and rearranging, pairing, creating diptychs, triptychs, polyptychs, singles. I had about 30 to play around with. Spreading them out on the studio floor. Playtime!

Can’t remember my original thoughts about why I was drawing trees since I was mainly focused on large abstract oils at the time… But a treasured memory of a long ago moment lying under a tree along the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia most probably led to the drawings. Eyes closed, feeling my life flowing with the energy of the tree. A gifted moment.
